Rockstar sells Grand Theft Auto VI in exactly two versions, and Take-Two's own pre-order announcement put a price on both: $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. This guide compares them using only what Rockstar and Take-Two have published in writing — the two prices, the itemised contents of each bundle, and the pre-order terms. Where Rockstar has not published something, that gap is stated plainly rather than filled in, because on the one question most buyers actually care about — whether the extra $20 buys anything worth having — Rockstar has not released enough information for anyone to answer honestly yet.

The Two Editions at a Glance

Standard Edition — $79.99 Ultimate Edition — $99.99
Base game (single-player) Yes Yes
Platforms PS5, Xbox Series X|S PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Release date November 19, 2026 November 19, 2026
Vintage Vice City Pack Yes, with any pre-order or purchase before November 20, 2026 Yes, on the same terms
Ultimate Edition premium collection No Yes — 16 named items
Free month of GTA+ Digital pre-orders only Digital pre-orders only
Digital pre-load opens November 12, 2026 November 12, 2026

Read that table from the bottom up and the structure becomes obvious: almost everything is shared. The release date, the platforms, the pre-load window, the GTA+ month and — crucially — the Vintage Vice City Pack are identical across both tiers. Exactly one row separates them, and that row is what the $20 buys.

What the $99.99 Ultimate Edition Adds

Rockstar bills the Ultimate Edition's exclusive contents as "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action" running through Jason and Lucia's story. The Compare Editions panel on Rockstar's own store itemises that collection as sixteen named entries:

Weapons and apparel

  • Hawk and Little Morgan Revolvers
  • Personalized Weapon Variants
  • Vice City Styles

Storefronts and services

Those are names on a comparison table, not descriptions. What any individual item actually does in play — what a mod shop unlocks, whether a "compound" is a place you enter or a bundle of goods, what a weapon variant changes — has not been published in a form this guide could verify, so it is not guessed at here. "Jason's Safehouse Vehicles" is the clearest example: it is a single line item covering an unstated number of vehicles, and the entries this site holds for the Dinka Enduro and the Kayak collect what has been said elsewhere about vehicles filed under that heading. Where an item above links through to a database entry, that entry is where the sourcing lives.

The Vintage Vice City Pack Is Not an Edition Perk

This is the most commonly misread part of the offer, and it is worth being blunt about. The Vintage Vice City Pack is included with all pre-orders and with any purchase made before November 20, 2026. It is not locked to the Ultimate Edition. Buy the $79.99 Standard Edition on launch day and the pack is yours on exactly the same terms as it would be for someone paying $99.99.

The pack itemises to three entries:

  • The '55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage
  • Outfits and Hairstyles
  • An Exclusive Weapon Pattern

Rockstar has not published a per-item breakdown of those three beyond their names either, and the throwback framing is tied to the look of Vice City rather than to any stated era of the story.

Formats, Pre-Load and the GTA+ Month

Both editions cover the same single-player experience, releasing November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and sold through the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store, and global retailers.

Two purchase-timing details are worth planning around. Digital pre-load begins November 12, 2026, a full week before launch. The physical release also becomes available on November 12 — and it is a download code in the box, not a disc, which means the physical version buys you a gift-wrappable object and a code, not an offline installer. Anyone picking a boxed copy off a shelf on November 19 will still be starting a full download that day.

The free month of GTA+ bundled with the game is attached to digital pre-orders only. If that month matters to you, the box is the wrong choice regardless of which edition you pick.

Is the Ultimate Edition Worth the Extra $20?

Nobody can answer that yet, and any guide that tells you otherwise is guessing.

Sixteen line items for $20 is arithmetic, not value. What would actually settle the question is knowing what those items do: whether the vehicles are cosmetic variants of cars the story hands you anyway, whether the mod shops and storefronts are places you own or services you unlock, and whether the weapon variants change how a gun performs or only how it looks. Rockstar has published the names and, as far as this guide could verify, nothing beyond them. So the honest position is that the Ultimate Edition's contents are confirmed to exist and unconfirmed in effect. Confirmed to exist and unconfirmed in effect turns out to describe a good deal of what our overview of the whole game contains.

What can be said is that the decision is far less urgent than a pre-order page implies. The genuinely time-limited item in the whole structure — the Vintage Vice City Pack — costs nothing extra and is attached to buying before November 20, not to buying the expensive tier. The pressure to decide quickly applies to buying, not to upgrading. Someone undecided about the Ultimate Edition can pre-order the Standard Edition and still secure the deadline-bound bonus.

What Rockstar Has Not Published

For completeness, the gaps as they stand: there is no published per-item description for either bundle's contents, no pricing announced in currencies other than US dollars, and no retailer-specific or platform-exclusive bonus that could be confirmed. The pre-order announcement names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and no other platform. The game is still not rated. Take-Two's pre-order announcement stated plainly that "Grand Theft Auto VI is not yet rated", and Rockstar's own store page now carries the ESRB interim label "Rating Pending — Likely Mature". That label is a placeholder shown while a title is awaiting review, not a rating that has been assigned — so the honest position remains that no ESRB rating has been issued, with the publisher signalling it expects a Mature one.

For the fuller release-date history, the platform picture, and the Newswire posts behind the pre-order window, see our GTA 6 release date, editions and pre-order guide. This page will be revised if Rockstar publishes per-item detail before launch.
