Grand Theft Auto VI is close enough now that Rockstar has put a launch date, a pre-order window, and two purchasable editions on the record — all through its own Newswire and the official rockstargames.com/VI site. This guide sticks to exactly what Rockstar itself has published: the date, the platforms, what pre-ordering gets you, and what's still missing from the official pages as of this writing.

When Grand Theft Auto VI Releases (and Why the Date Moved)

Rockstar's own site now reads simply "Coming November 19, 2026," and that date has a documented history behind it. On November 6, 2025, Rockstar posted a short, direct Newswire note announcing that the game "will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026" — language that only makes sense as a change from an earlier target. In that same post, Rockstar apologized "for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait," explaining that the extra months were needed "to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." Rockstar did not use the post to detail what specifically needed more time, so this guide isn't going to guess at the reasons beyond what the studio actually wrote. What matters for anyone tracking the date is that November 19, 2026 is the figure Rockstar reconfirmed as recently as its August 2026 Newswire posts, with no further change announced since.

Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — What About PC?

Every official page carrying platform information — the rockstargames.com/VI homepage and both Extended Look Newswire posts — names the same two platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's site also flags the game as "Plays Best On PlayStation 5," a distinction it draws without explaining what the practical difference is between the two consoles. As of the pages checked for this guide, Rockstar has not announced a PC version, a release window for one, or even confirmed that one is coming later — the way it eventually did for past entries in the series. Anyone who sees a PC release date circulating elsewhere should treat it as unconfirmed until Rockstar's own channels say otherwise.

Pre-Orders: What Rockstar Has Confirmed

Rockstar teased the pre-order window a week ahead of time: a June 18, 2026 Newswire post said pre-orders would begin June 25 "on digital storefronts and at other select retailers," and told players to add the game to their PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store wishlist so they'd be alerted "when pre-orders are live." Pre-orders then opened as promised, confirmed in a June 24, 2026 Newswire post titled "Pre-Order Grand Theft Auto VI on June 25," which states pre-orders began "at midnight local time on June 25."

That same post lays out two purchase-timing details worth knowing. First, digital pre-order customers get "a free month of GTA+" as a bonus — Rockstar's own phrase, with no further detail published on what happens after that month or whether it applies to every region. Second, Rockstar confirmed pre-load windows for both formats: digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading on November 12, and the physical version — which ships with a download code in the box rather than a disc — is also available starting November 12 specifically to support pre-loading ahead of the November 19 launch. Rockstar has not published a price for either edition on any of the pages checked for this guide, so none is stated here.

Standard Edition vs. Ultimate Edition

Rockstar's editions page lists two purchasable versions, and Take-Two's pre-order announcement prices them: $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Those are US dollar prices; no other currency has been announced. For a fuller side-by-side, see our editions guide comparing Standard and Ultimate. The Standard Edition is available "Digital or Code in Box" and, per Rockstar's own description, gets you "the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI along with pre-order bonuses" — meaning the base game plus whatever bonus items apply to any pre-order, without the extra content bundled into the pricier tier. The Ultimate Edition is digital-only and is billed by Rockstar as "an exclusive collection of items threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story."

The official items list for the Ultimate Edition, taken directly from Rockstar's own comparison page, runs to a specific set of pieces: the '95 Grotti Cheetah; a set of Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers described on the page as personalized weapon variants with Vice City styling; a separate line item for Jason's safehouse vehicles; a Ganado Retro Build for his Vapid Ganado pickup; access to the Rideout Customs mod shop and Sara's Unisex Salon; the Shitzu Squalo; the Stock 305 clothing store; the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy; the Electric Fang tattoo parlor; One-Eyed Willie's mod shop; Goodtime Gear; the PTT Youngin$ illegal goods store; and a classic car collection. Rockstar's page lists these as a single bundle of named items rather than describing each one in detail, so beyond what's named above, exactly what each item does in play hasn't been spelled out.

The Vintage Vice City Pack: A Pre-Order Bonus, Not an Edition

Separately from the Standard/Ultimate split, Rockstar confirmed that "all Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders and purchases before November 20" receive the Vintage Vice City Pack — meaning it isn't locked to the Ultimate Edition and applies to Standard Edition buyers too, as long as they order before that cutoff. Rockstar's own copy frames the pack as "a collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest," tying it to the classic look of Vice City rather than to any specific in-game season or era. Rockstar's Compare Editions panel does itemise the pack, and it comes to exactly three lines: a '55 Vapid Stanier sedan and garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. What none of those three lines carries is a description — no count of the outfits, no detail on the pattern, nothing about the garage. For the deadline, the platforms it applies to, and why the cutoff falls after launch day, see GTA 6 pre-order bonuses explained.

The Extended Look: Two Newswire Posts, One Showing

Rockstar announced "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" in an August 6, 2026 Newswire post, giving it two separate debuts on the same day: 3 p.m. ET on Netflix, then a second airing six hours later, at 9 p.m. ET, on Rockstar's own YouTube channel and on the official Grand Theft Auto VI site. Both times were dated for Thursday, August 27. A follow-up post on August 27, titled "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look — Now Playing," confirmed the footage had gone live as scheduled and described it as "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5." Rockstar's own framing calls it a showcase of "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet" — its own characterization of the material, not a claim independently verified here.

What's Still Unconfirmed

To be direct about the gaps: Rockstar has not announced a PC version or a date for one, has not described what any individual Vintage Vice City Pack item actually contains, and has not stated the time zone the November 20 cutoff runs to. Nothing in those gaps should be treated as settled until Rockstar's own Newswire or product pages say so directly — this guide will be revisited if and when that happens. A standing inventory of what those pages do and do not carry is kept in our guide to everything Rockstar has confirmed.

Two things this section previously listed as unknown are now published and have been corrected above: the editions are priced at $79.99 and $99.99, and the Vintage Vice City Pack is itemised as three lines on the Compare Editions panel. Both were genuinely unavailable when this guide was first written; neither is now.
